How Do You Protect Your Windows While Painting Your Home’s Exterior?

We all remember the days of coloring inside the lines back in school (some of us were better than others). Well, you may have thought those days were behind you, but if you ever tackle an interior or exterior painting project you’ll quickly realize that they aren’t.

Staying within those lines is never more important than when you’re working around windows (unless you like the speckled look!). This can be a tricky process. Because we’re big fans of working smarter rather than harder, we thought we’d share a quick painting tip that will help you keep your paint exactly where you want it. Scribble-free.

How Can You Paint Around Windows Without Getting Paint On The Glass?

One of our go-to tools for exterior painting is the paint sprayer. In the hands of a trained craftsman, the sprayer is capable of efficiently laying down a large amount of smooth, beautiful paint. Surface preparation and detail work is still crucial, but this is absolutely the best way to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

The natural, following question becomes: how do you spray around a window without risk of overspray landing on the glass?

Meet liquid mask, your new best painting buddy.

What Is Liquid Mask?

Depending on the product you choose, liquid mask can be either sprayed or brushed into place. Either way, it creates a protective barrier that is infinitely easier and faster to apply than the old method of taping and papering the glass. And, when you’re finished, you can simply peel it off, wash the glass, and enjoy your flawless finish.

In fact, we can show you exactly what it looks like to remove! If you visit our Facebook page you’ll find a short video of one of our team members peeling the liquid mask after a project.

While there is still no substitute for hiring a professional painter to tackle your job, painting tools and techniques have come such a long way in recent years. Making sure you are using the most updated options will ensure that your project goes as smoothly as possible, and that you can proudly stay inside those lines while you work.
