Early this morning, as I was reading about Martin Luther King Jr., on this day that we reflect on his life, I was reminded of what we teach at AALLBRIGHT about leadership. Do you remember what we say in our crew leader meetings about “who is a leader?” and “what makes a leader in our company?” Do you remember the answer? It appears Martin Luther King Jr. knew all about leadership. In fact, he learned it from someone who spoke about it over 2000 years ago.
In 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. quoted Jesus’ words in Mark 10. Then he said, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. . . . You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”
When Jesus’ disciples quarreled about who would get the places of honor in heaven, He told them: “Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:43-45).
Please share with your crew that anyone can be a leader or take on a leadership position by just helping another. It is at that moment you are a true leader.
